That’s been the last few days at our house. Anybody want to come play?
I am not a nice sick person.
I lie in bed and yell out threats that I couldn’t possibly have the energy to carry out. They don’t work. I scare myself when I look in the mirror, so I’m not sure why I don’t scare my children.
Matt stayed home from work today and did the dishes. I’m so glad because I think they were about to grow things. And he gave Natalie a bath after she threw up. I love him.
I have some serious questions.
1. Do you offer irrational prayers when you are sick? “Heavenly Father, if there’s any way you could make dinner appear on the table, that would be great.”
2. Does this mean that we probably don’t need to get the flu shot now?

So sorry you are sick. I hope everyone gets better real soon.
I am super whiny when sick. Feel better!
I’m so sorry you got sick! I had the fantastic swine flu about two weeks ago and it was more than a little lame.
Irrational prayers? More like everything becomes irrational. Like expecting a 16 month old not to play or make noise. And thinking that my husband would make dinner without any help. And clean up after it.
I hope you get well soon! I am lousy when I am sick as well–mean, cranky, the whole enchilada. Those kind of prayers are not irrational. I say them. I also try moving my now a la Samantha Stevens on Bewitched to try to get dinner to appear on the table when I don’t feel well.
Moving my ‘nose’ — not my now. Sorry!
Ah, so now the real reason for the “Patient Parents” nursery rhyme comes in to view. You didn’t need a nap–you needed an anti-viral medicine. (I loved the tonguetwister, by the way. I’m trying to memorize it so I can use it on my kids when nagging doesn’t work.) So sorry you are sick. We have it, too, as do my sister’s families. Thankfully I haven’t succumbed, as my normal is grouchy enough for the family to deal with. I don’t need that, too.
I was down for an entire week with the last round of flu. Thankfully for my family, even speaking sent me into huge coughing fits, so I just laid on the couch and watched endless bad TV. Good luck in your recovery, and bless your husband for taking care of things. I had to enlist my husband to stay home for two days so that the poor baby wouldn’t die of neglect. And yeah, no vaccines for you!
Ugh! We’ve been sick too. First Raina, then Salem and now I have a sore throat. I give up! (((Hugs))) But yeah at least you don’t have to worry about the vax now.
I pray things like “Lord, keep me from killing someone today” when sick or tired.
Hope you’re feeling better soon.
Hang in there.
That irrational prayer could totally work. Especially if you 1) say it out loud, and 2) have a 3rd grader who knows the number to Domino’s Delivery. I’m just sayin’…
Get well soon! I can’t believe how many people out in blog land are dying of the flu! I’ll be thinking of you.
If I lived nearby your “irrational” prayer would totally be answered tonight.
I’m the whine at my husband and yell at the kids type when I’m sick. I wince at the thought of my children’s future therapy sessions…
I’m hoping that the fact that all the kids here have had the flu means that I don’t need to bother with the flu shots too. Here’s hopin’ they hurry and get better. And that that nasty Mr. Flu stays away for the rest of the season. 🙂
I hate the flu. That is all.
Love your title. Hate the flu. LOATHE how I look and act when I have it.
I hope you all recover soon. Thank heaven for helpful and understanding husbands.
So sorry you’ve all been sick! Yuck. I hate the flu.
Here’s to hoping the flu can’t be passed from reading blogs and or even by commenting on one. I just wanted to know I hope you and the kiddos feel better real soon. What a wonderful husband you have!!!
Well, sure, if you count “God , will you please send my children to a different planet while I recover? Oh, and if it’s possible, please don’t let my husband get sick too because I love him so so so so much. And he’s a big baby when he’s sick. Amen.” as an irrational prayer. Which I don’t.
Get well soon, friend!
You know, flu shots are not all they’re cracked up to be. I went years without getting one, and the first year I did get a shot, I got sicker than I’ve ever been before. Go figure.
I have something that might cheer you up. Remember last May? Yeah! I finally got it done! (But maybe I’ll wait to send it to you because I sure wouldn’t want anyone puking all over it.) 😉
Loved your “irrational prayer”.
You sure have a lot of support; remember that in your time of illness.
Just saw this…hope you’re out-of-the-woods by now. Wish we lived closer to bring you some yummy, hot soup. We love you!
